METROCRAFT TECH INSTRUCTIONS

In order to get ready for our Metrocraft class, we ask that you download Minetest and install it on your computer. There are a few steps. We have included both step-by-step instructions and a tutorial video. Feel free to use whichever you are more comfortable with...

STEP 1: DOWNLOADING MINETEST

Note: If you have a Mac click here instead. If you have a PC continue on...

The first step is to install “Minetest.” Minetest is a free, public domain version of Minecraft. Minecraft and Minetestare basically the same program, but Minetest allows us to make more modifications, it works on older computers and best of all, it’s free.

Tutorial Video

Once you follow the steps in the video and get to the log-in screen, put in the following info. For the Address/Port, put in minetesthosting.com and the port number 32789

For the name, put your child's first name followed by the number "1". So if your child's name is Charlie, you would put in "charlie1" for the name in all lower-case.

The password is your child's age and the first name on your Outschool account. For instance, if "Carole" signed up for an account for her son "Matt" who is 9 years old, the username would be "matt1" (all lowercase) and the password would be "9carole" in all lowercase.

If you have any trouble with usernames or passwords, email matt@rightbraincurriculum.com and I can send it over to you.

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS (you can use these instead of the tutorial above if you prefer)

Step 1:

Go to this website:  minetest.net/downloads

Step 2: For a windows computer, download the 64-bit. Click here if you have a Mac.

Step 3:

Once you download, it will ask you to open the Zip file. Open it up and then open the Minetest folder in your Downloads…

Step 4:

Finally open the Minetest program… (You may want to create a shortcut for your desktop or “pin it” to your taskbar to make it easier to find in the future)

Step 5:

The last step is to open Minetest and go to the “Join Game” tab

On the "Join Game" tab, enter this information into the 4 boxes on the right:

For the Address/Port, put minetesthosting.com and the port number 32789

For the name put your child's first name followed by the #1. The password is your child's age and the first name on your Outschool account. For instance, if Carole signed up for an account for her son matt who is 9 years old, the username would be "matt1" (all lowercase) and the password would be "9carole" in all lowercase.

If you have any trouble with usernames or passwords, email matt@rightbraincurriculum.com and I can send it over to you.

STEP 2: LINKING TO GOOGLE SHEETS

The second step is much easier. We use Google Sheets in class for many things including voting, creating constitutions, displaying city flag nominees and compiling our house budgets. Please click on the link belowand make sure your child can access Google Sheets. You will find about a dozen tabs along the bottom of the document. You might briefly show your child how to move from tab to tab.

STEP 3: LET MATT KNOW YOU'RE ALL SET

If you are able to log into Minetest and get into Google Sheets, please fill out the form below. Also, please tell your child they are welcome to "fly" around our Capital City before the first class but please DON'T touch anything or build anything yet. They will have plenty of time to construct all kind of buildings in their new city once we begin. :)

Let Matt Know if You're Ready...
